The
Winged Ilsa of Rick's Place
This sculpture is a play between the second
century Hellenic Greek sculpture 'Winged Victory of Samothrace', which is in the Denon wing of the Lourve, and the movie 'Casablanca'.
The Winged Victory may be remembered in the film 'Funny Face', with Audrey Hepburn, as she runs down the stairs in a
flowing red dress; the Winged Victory as the background.
In Casablanca, the
heroine, Ilsa, played by Ingred Bergman, is trying to flee to safety with the help of Rick, played by Humphery Bogart, her
old flame and now the owner of the famous Rick's Cafe` Americain. The film is well know by it's theme song - 'As Time
Goes By' sung by the piano player Dooley Wilson.
Therefore, Winged Ilsa, from
